Cape Town’s most loved hotel captures the essence of the Cape through elegant design and authentic experiences as it launches its reimagined spaces, unveiling a hospitality legacy.
Nestled between mountains and sea, in the cosmopolitan coastal city of Cape Town, the President Hotel has revealed its beautifully refurbished rooms, the new Cove Wellness Spa and soon to be revamped Botany Café launching in July 2024.
“Mardré Meyer, Creative Director of Source Interior Brand Architecture (Source IBA), expressed enthusiasm about their role in the project, stating, “Always looking towards global lifestyle movements and how they apply in the local context, our studio could not have been more excited to be a part of the ongoing reinvention of The President Hotel – a true Cape Town icon.”
The President has unveiled a beautifully revitalised sanctuary for guests to breathe, rest and restore whilst experiencing all that one of the most beautiful cities in the world has to offer. Guests can enjoy luxurious and contemporary style rooms, interleading family apartments and sophisticated suites that feature bespoke furniture pieces inspired by South Africa’s heritage, culture and craftmanship, all created exclusively for the hotel.
The interiors are a curated celebration of the Cape Town’s diverse narrative with each floor representing a theme including oceans, fauna, flora, landscapes, culture in the city and surrounds. The focus of each space is the view and natural light with the material palette incorporating earthy tones, natural materials, and soft shapes, giving a resort-like sophistication with each theme’s colour palette embracing the beauty of natural surroundings – the deep blue of the oceans; vibrant green of flora and the maroon and pink hues of the sunrise.
Set against the breathtaking backdrop of Table Mountain, Lion’s Head and the Atlantic Ocean, showcasing spectacular views, the entire space encapsulates a memorable Mother City experience. Comfy occasional chairs with leather trims, spacious sleeper couches, dining tables with pitted base and three-legged details, organic shaped oak coffee tables, chairs with woven rope, organic mirrors, fluted lamp shades and bespoke rugs all weave a story to be told.
Committed to conscientious and sustainable luxury, conscious construction considerations were top of mind throughout the process to ensure commitment to the hotel’s ongoing sustainability efforts. Some of these include handmade bin baskets from local unemployed community, the Healing Earth range of amenities, installation of local Snomaster bar fridges in all rooms with energy consumption less than 1 kWh/day.
Lead Project Designer Bianca Minnaar from Source IBA emphasised the hotel’s unique setting, “Its prime location and gorgeous sweeping views make this property a true urban resort, so we aimed to introduce texture, calm and a sense of space into the guestrooms while pumping up the energy in the public spaces.
A whole host of exciting renovations are still coming to The President, as it undergoes a significant reinvestment into its guest spaces.
“With Cape Town being one of the most beautiful cities in the world and considered the tourism capital of Africa, The President Hotel’s reimagination of spaces is a commitment to offering guests an authentic and exceptional experience. We’re excited about the future and can’t wait to welcome guests to Cape Town’s most loved hotel,” says Managing Director, Jeremy Clayton.
The President Hotel is South Africa’s largest independent hotel, celebrating over 257 years of hospitality and 26 years since the newly rebuilt hotel was opened by Nelson Mandela on 3 June.
