ASEZ WAO volunteers redeem Golden Harvest Park

On Sunday 14th July 2024, ASEZ WAO carried  out the 8142nd Worldwide clean-up campaign at Golden Harvest Park, Randburg, Johannesburg. A total of 75 volunteers removed invasive and alien plants, cut overgrown shrubs and picked up litter  in collaboration with Pikitup, the city’s official waste management service provider, volunteer group Community Heroes, together with local Councillor Ralf Bitkau and Johannesburg City Parks who are managing the park, in an effort to create visibility in the park.

ASEZ WAO is the young adult worker volunteer group from World Mission Society Church of God who contribute in making improvements for mankind and the earth by taking care  of their neighbors and communities with young adults’ passion and positive energy and participating in environmental protection activities. ASEZ stands for ‘Save the earth from A to Z’ and WAO stands for ‘We Are One’. So ASEZ WAO means Save the Earth from the beginning to the end as one family. The young adult volunteers practice the virtue of serving mankind through various volunteer activities and climate response activities in 175 countries around the world.

Councillor Bitkau lauded the volunteers who gathered and drived the initiative to make a lasting impact.”You guys are the cause of why we gathered here today. We really need to make a difference at the moment, we’ve got rivers being polluted and have watershed problems. That’s why what you’re doing here is so important. For that, I really thank you so much. I see this as the beginning of great works”, he said.

Doreen from City Parks also thanked the volunteers and Councillor who came to assist.”We have 45 parks to maintain and we have only five grass cutters. It’s so hard to go everywhere to fix what needs to be fixed. As for us, we can’t manage everything by ourselves. So you coming here to assist is a huge lift for us. I’m so happy and excited to work with you guys. So thank you so much and thank you so much Councillor for organising this,” she said.

The beautiful Golden Harvest struggles with challenges of safety concerns from time to time with presence of ‘panga gangs’ who create an unsafe environment and robbery of visitors. By cleaning and maintaining the park, it enhances visibility and crime reduction.

ASEZ WAO aims to become one by having the heart of Mother and taking necessary action to promote more sustainable practices and make a positive impact on the environment. ASEZ WAO carries out the Take Action Project (TAP) to tap into people’s awareness for sustainable development of the Earth and humankind. Through TAP, ASEZ WAO volunteers Talk, Act and Partner to create lasting change.
