Enel Green Power and QIA have joined forces to conclude three PPAs with Air Liquide and Sasol for the long-term supply of a total capacity of 330MW of renewable energy. This makes Enel Green Power RSA one of the first renewable energy companies to conclude a set of large-scale wind PPAs in South Africa for the commercial and industrial market.
The power will be generated by three joint venture-owned wind projects located in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa and is expected to be operational by 2026. This 330MW cluster complements the existing platform of over 730MW already in operation and is expected to result in an annual production of more than 1 100GWh.
The announcement also marks the first project developed entirely under the umbrella of the joint venture between Enel Green Power and QIA since the two entities entered into a partnership to build and operate renewable energy plants in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The partnership is aligned with QIA’s commitment to support the global transition to a low-carbon future, and strengthens Enel Green Power as a major renewable energy supplier in South Africa as it continues discussions with other offtakers to increase energy capacity, a move that will further consolidate its position as a leader in the renewable energy industry.
