I Love Uju, Oryx Desert Salt and other local brands have come together to make a meaningful impact this Mandela Day on 18 July at Muizenberg Beach! And we’d like you be a part of this impact!
This event is a unique opportunity for everyone to honour Nelson Mandela’s legacy through community action and environmental stewardship. Mandela Day calls for individuals, communities, and organizations to reflect on Mandela’s values and principles and make a positive difference.
This year, we’re excited to host a beach clean-up guided by Secret Sunrise, a movement that unites the world through music, movement, and connection. Participants will receive headphones to enhance their experience, adding deeper intention to our collective effort to clean up the beach.
All while raising money for local organisation, Waves For Change!
Event Details:
- WHEN: Thursday, 18 July (Mandela Day)
- WHERE: Muizenberg Beach, opposite Knead
- TIME: 9:30am – 11:30am
- BRING: Wear layers of warm, comfy clothes and bring water, a swimming costume, and a towel. Please bring your own bag for collecting rubbish to help us reduce waste!
Event Schedule:
- Beach Clean-up: Enjoy a guided experience by Secret Sunrise while making a positive impact on our environment.
- Swim and Sauna: After the clean-up, brave the ocean waves and warm up with a session in the Hot Huts Mobile Sauna.
- Refreshments, Raffle & Goodie Bags: Relax with electrolyte refreshments provided by our sponsor, Revive, as we draw raffle winners and hand out goodie bags filled by our generous sponsors.
Proceeds and Donations: All proceeds from this event will be donated to Waves for Change, an organization offering child-friendly mental health services to under-resourced communities through Surf Therapy. Surf Therapy combines the health benefits of surfing and physical activity with activities that help young people build protective relationships, identify emotions, self-soothe, and build a positive future vision.
Family Friendly: This is a family-friendly event, so bring your loved ones and make a day of it.
Upcycling Plastic Waste: The plastic collected during the clean-up will be donated to a local ocean plastic artist, who will upcycle it into beautiful art pieces.
