While most seven-year-olds are busy playing with new toys, local resident Logan is busy turning trash into treasure. As a candidate for the prestigious International Miss South Africa (IMSA) “Miss Green” title, Logan has officially launched her community project: the Waste-to-Wonder Workshops.
Driven by a love for South Africa’s wildlife and oceans, Logan noticed how much plastic was ending up in bins—and landfills. Instead of staying quiet, she decided to use her “Eco-Warrior” superpowers to teach her peers about upcycling: the art of taking waste and making it better than it was before.
“Being Green isn’t just a colour – it’s a superpower!” says Logan. “I want to show everyone that we don’t need to buy new things to have fun. We just need our imaginations to save the Earth.”
The “Waste-to-Wonder” project features two signature initiatives:
T-Shirt transformations. Converting old, discarded T-shirts into durable, reusable grocery bags to protect sea turtles from plastic pollution.
The Wonder Planters. Upcycling soda bottles into self-watering herb gardens to promote green living in small spaces.
Logan is documenting her journey in a “Project Diary,” tracking the number of plastic bottles saved and the number of friends she has inspired. Her goal is to prove that you are never too small to make a big difference in the sustainability of our country.
Through her participation in IMSA, she hopes to bring the “Miss Green” title home to Kibler Park, Johannesburg serving as a voice for the environment and a role model for the next generation of South African leaders.
