Marine Energy Transition Forum 2025 comes to London International Shipping Week

The Marine Energy Transition Forum (METF) 2025 will take place on 15 September as part of London International Shipping Week (LISW25), bringing together shipping, marine fuel and port-sector stakeholders to assess the pace of progress on decarbonisation.

With a headline theme of ‘The Commercial Imperative: Proving the Business Case for Shipping’s Decarbonisation, this year METF will consider how the industry is faring in commercialising fuel and technologies initiatives to move forwards on shipping’s energy transition.

By focusing on pilot projects, cross-sector collaborations, joint ventures and start-ups that have driven initial decarbonisation efforts, METF 2025 will ask some key and difficult questions, including:

  1. What happens when subsidies and seed funding end? Exploring sustainable business models and revenue streams beyond initial support.
  2. How can companies bring products and services to market? Highlighting support mechanisms – public, private and hybrid – and best routes to market entry.
  3. Is finance ready to back decarbonisation? Assessing the risk appetite among established financiers, green investors and alternative funding sources.
  4. Why do Final Investment Decisions stall? Identifying hurdles – from regulatory uncertainty to technology readiness – and strategies to accelerate decision-making.
  5. How can businesses survive and thrive? Showcasing success stories and lessons from ventures that have navigated the shift to low-carbon shipping.

Organiser’s Comment:

“METF 2025 is coming to London International Shipping Week at a pivotal moment for shipping’s energy solution and we will be asking how maritime stakeholders can make the transition from the decarbonisation ‘big idea’ to commercialisation, scalability and profitability.

“We will talk to start-ups, mid-sized ventures, and corporate heavyweights about risk, and how new and existing businesses can ‘survive and thrive’ in a competitive decarbonisation commercial environment. I’m looking forward to some hard-hitting, incisive and fruitful conversations.”
