Consulting Engineers South Africa (CESA) is deeply saddened by the tragic collapse of a five-story building that took place in George on Monday, 6 May.
“We offer our heartfelt and sincere condolences to the families impacted by this incident,” empathises Chris Campbell, CEO of CESA.
As investigations proceed, CESA urges patience and restraint, emphasizing the importance of waiting for expert analysis before drawing conclusions. “No self-respecting engineer will hazard a guess publicly without a thorough investigation. We, therefore support V3 Consulting Engineers, a member of CESA, who has been appointed to undertake the investigations.”
As an organisation committed to the highest standards of safety and professionalism in engineering, Campbell cautions against speculation on the causes of the collapse at this stage. “Our priority remains ensuring the safety and integrity of infrastructure projects in South Africa.”
CESA extends its gratitude to the rescue teams and emergency responders for their tireless efforts. Our hope is for a swift and successful rescue operation.
