DATE: Thursday 15 October 2020
TIME: 12h00 to 14h30
COST: No cost, free-of-charge
Opening keynote address by: Minister of Public Enterprises Hon. Pravin Gordhan.
Moderated by: Thabang Chiloane, Executive Head: Group Strategic Relations and Public Affairs at Nedbank; and Chris Yelland, Managing Director, EE Business Intelligence.
In October 2019, Minister Pravin Gordhan presented the Eskom Roadmap for Eskom in a Reformed Electricity Supply Industry which details plans to restructure Eskom into three subsidiaries – Generation, Transmission and Distribution – as a precursor to the creation of an Independent Transmission System and Market Operator (ITSMO) and a competitive power generation sector in South Africa.
The webinar explores issues around calls for non-discriminatory access to the transmission grid; and how both the financial system and an independent publicly-owned transmission company can facilitate a level playing field. This is seen as a important catalyst to investment, creation of new jobs, extraction of efficiencies and mitigation of risk in a diversified and competitive generation sector.
The presenters at the webinar will each give high-level presentations on various important aspects of an Independent Transmission System and Market Operator (ITSMO) in South Africa, as follows:
– Hon. Pravin Gordhan, Minister of Public Enterprises
– Mr. André de Ruyter, CEO, Eskom
– Prof. Anton Eberhard, UCT Graduate School of Business
– Dr. Miriam Altman, Commissioner, National Planning Commission
– Mr. Amith Singh, Head, Energy Finance, Nedbank CIB
