Earlier this year the National Metrology Institute celebrated World Metrology Day (WMD) by running a competition to SME’s as advertised in the Green Economy Journal Issue 52.
Chosen by the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) and the International Organization of Legal Metrology (IOML), the WMD 2022 theme was Metrology in the Digital Era – ‘’providing the opportunity for the measurement and science community to reflect on the way that digital transformation, among the world’s most exciting trends, are revolutionising our lives’.
In line with NMISA’s strategy, the institute used this year’s global theme to create an awareness of metrology in general and use it as an opportunity to market its recent projects that utilises technology, such as the kibble balance project and 3D printing project. In addition, NMISA also launched a launched a competition to demonstrate the Institutes’ support towards Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SME’s) and commitment to focus on entrepreneurship as per the Government’s drive to an inclusive economy for South Africa as exposed in the National Development Plan (NDP) 2030.
Ms Salochana Naidoo’s was randomly drawn as the winning entry on behalf of her son’s business, Amea Technologies. The company provides Information and Technology (IT) support and sales, as well as business solutions for Non-Profit Organisations (NGO’s), schools and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges.
Mr Ndwakhulu Mukhufhi, NMISA’s CEO, handed over the competition prize officially to Mr Dylan Strydom on behalf of Amea Technologies on Wednesday, 17 August 2022. ‘’As we are a small business, we continuously look for new methods and technologies to help service our clients. Personal Computer parts (non-electrical) can be made using a 3D printer. These will be some of the first items we will attempt to make. The 3D printer will help with our promotional items and thank you gifts for clients. We also look forward to seeing how this can help the NGOs we support’’, said Mr Strydom.
On behalf of NMISA’s Executive Management, the institute congratulates Ms Salochana Naidoo on winning the WMD 2022 competition prize and hope that it will add value to Amea Technologies.
